Try something new: The Bar rique in Bremen – wine fun to tap yourself!
As a wine lover and resident of Bremen, I am delighted that a “new” wine bistro has opened in Bremen: Bar rique! After visiting several times, I would like to share my impressions with you.
You’ll find Bar rique at the beginning of the Europahafen, at Ludwig-Franzius-Platz 8. It’s very easy to get there by tram, lines 5 and 3, stop Konsul-Smidt-Straße – which is especially handy if you want to enjoy a few glasses of wine.
The Bar rique in Bremen has a unique wine dispensing system from the Dutch manufacturer “By the Glass”. This system, which uses food-grade argon or nitrogen to keep wines fresh, gives you the opportunity to try more than 50 different wines. You can tap and select three different sizes with a prepaid card: 25 ml, 75 ml and 150 ml. For me the 25 ml tasting sip is the most interesting one, as it allows you to try out several wines. Of course, you will regularly find new Lines in the wine dispenser.
However, I have to admit that I personally find the most exciting wines on the well-stocked wine list. You can always browse through this online via PDF – after all, preparation is everything! On my last visit, I opted for the following wines: the 2021 Blaue Libelle from Andreas Tscheppe, followed by a 1998 Château Pavie Macquin and a 1977 Warre’s Vintage Port as the crowning glory. I don’t drink such excellent wines every day, and it was especially fun as I was able to enjoy the wines with a good wine friend. Most of the wines of the wine list are from Lobenberg’s Gute Weine and Vinaturel ranges. However, there are also a few perfectly matured wines on the wine list that come from private wine collectors with optimal storage conditions.
If you need help with your selection, Jannis Bartsch is on hand to offer advice and assistance. He is a certified IHK sommelier and managing director of Bar rique. He is a true wine connoisseur and a top advisor when it comes to wine. If you want to drink a particular vintage, please let Jannis know in advance so that he can take your wishes into account.
From time to time, Bar rique hosts exciting wine tastings hosted by individual wineries. I had the opportunity to attend such an event with Clemens Busch of the VDP estate of the same name. We tasted current wines and mature treasures from the estate’s cellar. This was accompanied by a snack that went very well with the Rieslings presented. What I found most interesting about the evening was the comparison of a mature wine from the cooler 1997 vintage and the warmer 1999 vintage. This gave us an insight into how such different vintages mature and allowed us to adjust our buying behaviour for the current vintages. If you are fancy of an evening like this, you should sign up for the Bar rique newsletter to be notified of upcoming events.
Of course, good food goes hand in hand with good wine. Chefs André Piller and André Gerdes take care of your physical well-being with creativity and sustainability. The dishes are excellently prepared and designed so that you can try different dishes in one evening. This makes it possible to enjoy different wines with the matching dishes.
To sum up, my verdict is very positive: a large and well-stocked wine list, the opportunity to try many wines, very good and varied food, a beautiful view of the Europahafen and competent and friendly service. I can give the Bar rique a clear recommendation!
