Johannes Aufricht: The Art of Sekt from Lake Constance

Rarely have I been so delighted about an allocation as I was with that of Johannes Aufricht. Three bottles, each promising something special: 2021 Sekt Blanc de Blanc Cuvée 03 Brut Nature, 2021 Sekt Blanc de Blanc Cuvée 04 Brut Nature, and the 2022 Nachtweid Pinot Noir – finally arrived in Bremen and unpacked full of anticipation and excitement.

Johannes Aufricht represents the next generation of the renowned Weingut Aufricht on Lake Constance. His name stands especially for meticulously crafted Sekts that impress not only with precision but also with character. Last year, I had the opportunity to visit the winery and taste a bottle of his award-winning 2020 Blanc de Blanc Sekt Brut Nature, which won the Meininger Sekt Award 2024 in the Burgundy Sekt category. What an experience! Such depth and complexity in the glass, paired with incredible drinkability – German Sekt craftsmanship at its finest.

Johannes is setting new standards not just with Sekt but also with his Nachtweid Pinot Noir. The 2022 vintage promises a fresh facet of his signature style: fine fruit, cool elegance, and enough structure to age beautifully for years to come.

I can’t wait to see how these new vintages develop. One thing is certain: Johannes Aufricht remains one of the most exciting and sought-after names for sparkling wine and Pinot lovers in Germany.
